How Government Solicitations Can Boost Your Business

Updated: May 29

Seizing opportunities wherever they arise is key to business growth and impact. One often overlooked avenue is government contracts, which can provide a stable income and also allow businesses to make a tangible difference in society. Recently, I took a step towards harnessing this potential by submitting a Request for Information (RFI) for a government solicitation.

The county is seeking professional services geared towards meeting 14 crucial elements of support for youth aged 14 to 24, as mandated by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA). These elements span a diverse range, from leadership skills and dropout prevention to mentoring, entrepreneurial skills, and financial literacy education. For instance, leadership skills encompass vital aspects such as self-awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision-making. This solicitation offers a remarkable opportunity for businesses, particularly health and wellness and business development providers, to align their services with the county's objectives. Whether offering in-person or virtual services, individually or in groups, there are opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.

Many government solicitations prioritize partnering with businesses owned by under-represented communities. If your organization falls under categories like Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Minority or Women-Owned Business, or others listed, you could meet the participation requirements, opening doors to lucrative opportunities.

The government solicitation was much simpler that I expected. Completing the RFI was as straightforward as a one-page document supplemented by responses to just three questions:

  1. Is your organization capable of expanding or developing services to fulfill one or more of the 14 element requirements?

  2. What amount of funding would be necessary to facilitate such endeavors?

  3. Please clarify the usual fee structure for this type of service.

The potential returns on investment in pursuing government contracts are substantial. However, navigating the process is new for many entrepreneurs. That's where supports like the Teach to Change workshop planning virtual event come in. This virtual project based learning workshop offers an opportunity to complete the Teach to Change workshop planning document and includes invaluable guidance on refining your learning experience topic, format, pricing, and next steps to help you secure government contracts.

Additionally, for those seeking a more immersive experience, an intensive learning experience is available to design an inclusive and transformational learning experience.

Government solicitations offer opportunities for businesses looking to make a difference while expanding their operations. By aligning your services with community needs and leveraging available resources and support, you can not only grow your business but also contribute meaningfully to the well-being of communities. So, why wait? Start exploring the world of government contracts today and unlock the true potential of your business.
